Grassman's fertilization program consists of five applications, all of which have been specially formulated for this area of the country by Lesco, one of the largest distributors of fertilizers in the United States. Each of the five treatments is scheduled to maximize your lawn's full potential during each part of the growing season.

Treatment # 1: April through early May
As your lawn awakens from a long winter, we apply a balanced fertilizer to maintain a healthy green color, a crabgrass preventive, and weed control as needed. This is one of the most important applications because preventing crabgrass is much easier than trying to eliminate it once it has become established.

Treatment # 2: Early May through June
As summer begins, we apply a slow-release fertilizer with iron to maintain a vibrant green color throughout the season. We also spot- spray any existing broadleaf weeds. Unlike other companies that blanket-spray your entire lawn with unnecessary pesticides, we only directly spray the weeds that are present.

Treatment # 3: End of June through July
As summer is well underway, we apply a slow-release, well-balanced fertilizer with iron. This helps maintain good color during summer stresses like heat and drought. Grassman strongly recommends applying an insecticide at this time to knock down any grubs in the lawn. This is the best time of the year for grub control.

Note: Since proper soil pH is important for maintaining a healthy, vigorous turf, Grassman strongly recommends an application of lime at this time of year.

Treatment # 4: August through September
As summer comes to a close, we apply a well-balanced, slow-release fertilizer with iron. Fertilizing at this time of year stimulates healthy root growth for a stronger turf, and helps your lawn green up and recover from the summer stress. We also spot-spray for broadleaf weeds at this time.

Note: We strongly recommend having Grassman aerate your lawn in the fall. This helps prevent compaction and allow nutrients and air to reach the roots for better root development. Power-seeding is another service provided by Grassman and is also suggested at this time of year if you have thin or bare areas in you lawn. Fall is the best time of the year to plant grass seed, with its warm days and cool nights that provide optimum growing conditions and moisture levels in the soil. Since there are no crabgrass or broadleaf weeds at this time of year, there is no competition for the germinating grass seed.

Treatment # 5: October through November
Our final application for the year is a special winter fertilizer to slowly feed your lawn through the late fall and early winter, without forcing new growth. This late treatment helps with early spring green up because the roots have stored necessary nutrients over the winter. Lawns that do not receive a winter application take longer to green up in the spring.
